Team Ninja is working on the Nintendo DS version of Ninja Gaiden. It is not what I expected – based on the following video, they’re going for a full-on conversion of the Xbox hit, just changing backdrops into prerendered ones. The recycling of enemies from the Xbox Ninja Gaiden does not impress me.
Technically it is very impressive and the control system is said to be interesting (not necessarily good). I was expecting something that would fit the handheld format a little better, sort of boiling it down to its essentials; it looks like there is a huge risk of making things too complicated and cluttered.
I do dig the amusing trend of making up ridiculous titles to get the “DS” abbreviation into DS games, in this case “Dragon Sword”.
