I never had an Amiga, but regardless, I played so much Speedball 2 back in the day (being 1991) that it’s one of my most cherished games. It helps that it looks and sounds phenomenal to this day. I admit that I’m dreading the remake – according to Eurogamer, “not quite Speedball 3 but not just Speedball 2 either” – because it could go so many ways wrong.
At least they’re including a “classic” mode with a top-down view and single-button gameplay for us old fans. Ice cream! Ice cream!
It helps that an original Bitmap Brother, Mike Montgomery, is supervising the development. My fears aren’t exactly gone, but Eurogamer’s enthusiastic hands-on with the game did a lot to alleviate them.
