I am a little surprised to see Microsoft still toiling away on the Xbox 360’s backwards compatibility with the original Xbox. I expected them to quietly stop making the software emulators, since it’s already been a year since the launch of the next-gen console. Their effort is valued though, because I would love to be able to access all of my beloved library in the future, too. My Xbox is starting to get a little old: I don’t like the sound its disc tray makes and hard drives just break at some point.
There are some very pleasant surprises this time: Panzer Dragoon Orta, Soul Calibur 2 and Jet Set Radio Future. This gives me an excuse to replay all three! Especially Soul Calibur 2, which suffers from a bug on my old Xbox which keeps the game from unlocking the hidden characters. Such a shame that it doesn’t have Live support, though.
There aren’t too many titles left in my library that need the BC lovin’. Otogi and OutRun 2 are on the top of the list.
Update: On second thought, there is still a bunch to go after all. One Kung Fu Chaos to go, please. And there are reports that Jet Set Radio Future doesn’t work, after all :/
