Eskil Steenberg is a man bound for great things in the videogame world. I think his bread and butter does not come from videogames, but he is an experienced graphics programmer and the way he’s approaching Love is very inspiring.
It’s a procedurally generated online game. He is not dodging the bullet on the story, either. Procedurally generated landscape and art we’ve seen before, even if it’s still little-used, but taking on the idea of the game making up the stories as you go along is very exciting. Rock Paper Shotgun has a new, short interview up, explaining some of the ideas and mechanics behind the story generation, using Star Wars as an example.
Steenberg has a blog, Quel Solaar, chronicling the progress of Love, among other things.
